It’s such an easy question to ask: “Who’s your ideal customer?” And it can be so challenging to answer! After a presentation I gave last night, one of the attendees approached me to say she had two ideal niches she loves to work in and yet because she wants both, she’s struggling to reach either one. I’m not surprised.

My point is that not all customers are created equal. You must research and identify who is the right customer for you. If you are lucky, they’ll find you.…

If you are lucky, they’ll find you. Being a little more realistic and responsible, you have to actively seek them out. When you find them or reach them you must:

* identify the problem they have that you can solve, and
* sell them on your solution.

Before you determine your ideal client you must assess all possible clients in the broader niche you are in. Some prospective clients will be too expensive to serve. Some will be too expensive to sell. Some will never be satisfied. Then again, some others will be ideal clients.

So what will an ideal client look like? One or more of the following must be true:

- They find your product/service offering to be valuable.
- You offer a solution to at least one of their important problems.
- You create opportunity for them.
- Purchasing from you is a good investment for them.

Do you know who these customers are? Without them your business plan has no validity. Without them your marketing strategy will fall flat. Without them your vision of success is like a hot-air balloon that runs out of gas before it catches a thermal current to help it soar.

To sell well you must know your target market. Know what they want and what they need. If you don’t know, or you aren’t sure, find out.

Concurrently check in with your own business vision and mission. Why? Because, if you pick an ideal customer niche and you sign up to deliver a solution to their problem it had better be:

* something you are passionate about
* something you can be the best in the world at
* something extremely profitable for you.

Brochures are not used as a final sales tool. But because they serve as an introduction to potential customers, it is important that your brochures are interesting and attractive as possible.

Every business owner’s goal is to have a lot of profit as much as possible. But earning a lot of money is not easy. It needs a lot of hard work, determination and a good marketing strategy.

So if a business owner wants to increase his sales would a brochure do?

Typically brochures are not used as a final sales tool. But because it serves as an introduction to potential customers, it is important that your brochures are interesting and attractive as possible. And how could you possibly do that? As always, you have to have a good design, great color choices and good content. You can also add some gimmicks to make it more interesting. Getting testimonials from current customers can also add spice to your brochure. Testimonials helps build trust with target customers and it gives a clearer picture to your potential customers of how your products and services can help them.

Consider these factors when getting started with your own brochure: collect several brochures from hotel lobbies or offices. Then decide which brochures catch your eye and which one you want to pick up. And ask these questions: what made you pick them up? Was it the headline? Was it because of the ink, color, typeface or visual design? Did you find something interesting in it that caught your eye? After you have answered these questions, it’s your turn to decide what will make your own brochure striking and interesting.

Then again let’s say you are deciding whether to present your brochure in a logical or emotional manner. Consider this situation; you bought a shirt just because of the color and design of it. It doesn’t matter if it’s a bit large for your size you’ll grow into it anyway. What’s important is you like the color and the design is too cute to pass for. In advertising, logic and emotion often come in conflict. So if you create a brochure for a particular product based on logic and your competitor present the same product based on emotion, you might want to hold on to your seat because more or less your competitor will be able to entice more customers than you. Remember that in situations like this emotion is more likely to win.

Keep in mind that your brochure represents who you really are. It will tell customers whether you offer good service or if you take your customers for granted. It will present your image when you are not there. So show your customers who you really are and make those brochures beef up profits for you.

“If I were starting a Network Marketing company, I would say, what’s a different group of people that want to hear a story about how to succeed with network selling? What words, phrases and images do I use to help them understand what it is I have to offer?”

So opined our friend Seth Godin in an interview with John Fogg this past December (and thanks, gulliver, for bringing this comment to my attention.)

Why a “different” group (than those we have now)?

For one, too …

“If I were starting a Network Marketing company, I would say, what’s a different group of people that want to hear a story about how to succeed with network selling? What words, phrases and images do I use to help them understand what it is I have to offer?”

So opined our friend Seth Godin in an interview with John Fogg this past December (and thanks, gulliver, for bringing this comment to my attention.)

Why a “different” group (than those we have now)?

For one, too many visible people, including big name trainers, practice and teach the kinds of abusive, promise-them-anything kinds of behaviors that cause regular people, plus influential business people like Godin and Calacanis to tell us to our face that we’re low rent at best, and say they’d never even buy from a networker.

(And of course they recognize the recruit recruit approach with its emphasis on the big up-front order, as the fast-cash-grabbing method that it is for too many people doing and teaching it.)

So we wouldn’t want those kinds of practitioners of NM in the new group, would we? So they can’t come.

Second, 95% of those who came in with high hopes of making some desperately needed extra income leave disgusted, confused, broke or more in debt than when they came in.

They’ve used up their friends and family, spent their money on systems that mostly benefitted their upline (leads programs, Internet sites, training stuff.) Not happy campers. They join the ever growing biased againsts. Chances are they won’t come back, at least not in big numbers.

So they’re out.

And last, we don’t want to raid anyone’s organization for those that are happy where they are, right?

So that leaves them out.

So who might be in our new and different group?

Here’s one that comes to mind: The amateurs, as defined in the previous post:

Those who do something for the love and challenge of it, and who therefore have less conflict of interest because they’re not saying what they say to pay the bills or please someone else (like an upline or adoring spouse they want to impress).

The members of this new group would not join because of any money lure. No. They’d be like hobbyists who don’t treat this “like a business” (if that means doing things you really don’t like just to make money.)

Yes, like hobbyists who squeeze in whatever time they can to do something they are driven to do. The new group I’m talking about forming is NOT in it for the money. Although they’ll of course be happy to bank any. It just isn’t what drives them. Imagine that.

Time out. Adult beverage break. To be continued next post.

Making a living online is so easy that a 10 yesr old kid can run a business from their bedroom.

You might be saying to your self, ya right!
But it’s true, if you have access to a credit card and an internet connection your in business.

First you will need a domain name and hosting for your new website.

Once you have your domain name and hosting account, make sure that your domain DSN settings are that of your website hosting account.

Within 24 hours your domain name and host will connect with each other.

After this is done, it’s time to upload your website to your hosting account.

Once your website is up and running, the first thing you want to do is submit your website to as many search engines as possible.

Signup for some traffic exchanges programs, they will send visitors to your website with 20 minutes after you have signed up for an account with them.

You can find everything you need to start a home based business or promote your site FREE with this new toolbar that just came out.

It’s called SpeedTrafficBar and you can download at: http://SpeedTrafficBar.ourtoolbar.com

Having a hard time identifying the best target audience for your small business? Use these five tips to pick your best prospects.Target Audience, Narrowing your focus to one primary group of people is often difficult for small business owners. They want to help everyone — and very often their product or service CAN help a variety of people.

It also goes against human nature to narrow your focus in order to grow a business. Common sense seems to tell us if we want to grow our business big, we need to appeal to more people.

In reality the opposite is true. When we narrow our focus to a particular group of people we become an expert in solving their particular problems. We get to know them very well and we can develop additional products and services to fill their needs.

So how do you decide who to market to?

Following are 5 tips:

1) Think about the type of people who can MOST benefit from what you have to offer.

2) Think about who you would most enjoy helping, or working with.

3. Think about the type of people who will be easiest to reach, AND who will be most receptive to what you are selling. These will be people who KNOW they have THE problem you can solve and are LOOKING for a solution.

4) Know that just because you select a particular group of people to focus your marketing on, does NOT mean you can’t help others who may come to you. It only means you’re going to focus your proactive marketing efforts on the target group you select.

5) Lastly, don’t over-think it. Listen to your gut, pick a group you feel you can really help and proceed with the development of your marketing plan. Marketing is a fluid process. The important thing is to start. You can always refine your audience and your plan later as you learn more.

What words, phrases and images do I use to help them understand what it is I have to offer?” (posed by Seth Godin)

People in the new group I’m proposing – amateurs and hobbyists doing network selling – have a different worldview about other practices too.

“If I were starting a Network Marketing company, I would say, what’s a different group of people that want to hear a story about how to succeed with network selling? What words, phrases and images do I use to help them understand what it is I have to offer?” (posed by Seth Godin)

People in the new group I’m proposing – amateurs and hobbyists doing network selling – have a different worldview about other practices too.

For years we’ve been admonished to “Treat it like a business.” That’s how members of the existing group explain the 95% drop out rate: “People don’t treat it like a business, (i.e. take it seriously), and that’s why they don’t make money.”

Maybe too many people don’t like what they have to do so they don’t do it seriously. Not a problem for our amateurs.

And, if you listen to people talk today about why they want a business of their own, and it’s a lot of them, the money’s not what they seek first, anyway.

“Two-thirds of Americans have entrepreneurial aspirations…” according to a recent Yahoo poll. Here are three things they learned about these folks:

1. Money is not the primary motivation for aspiring entrepreneurs — only 3 percent (half of the 6 percent in 2005) said getting rich was the main reason they wanted to start a business.

2. Doing work that they really love was the main reason for launching a business.

3. Second most popular reason: “To be my own boss.”

Sounds like the worldview of our new group of amateurs and hobbyists to me. Think?

The pitches from the existing NM group are about the money and what that can do for you. And that’s ok because money first is their worldview, their thing. And there’s room and people for both groups.

Oh – did you notice the second most popular reason people aspire to be an entrepreneur – “to be my own boss”?

This means that the widespread NM practice of teaching duplication, i.e. imposing someone else’s painting by the numbers methods and systems onto the new member – well that isn’t part of what the new group will do, either. (No loss here, given the results it seems to have gotten.)

A new story for a new group about how to succeed with network selling.

1. Our new imaginary network marketing company will seek out enthusiasts for the things the founders are also most devoted to. Say that’s doing everything they can to maintain and max out their own health, longevity, energy and appearance. (Think Ray Kurzweil.) And within that, mini groups will form, a la the longtail concept. They’ve created a state of the art little supplement.

2. The product sales to aficionados who know and prize the ingredients and love talking about how it helps them will always outweigh any need to subscribe newcomers (i.e. new recruits).

3. No trying to change anyone’s worldview. Mission is to find those with a similar one already.

My imaginary network selling company

A small group starts a network selling company because they’re health and longevity buffs (think Ray Kurzweil’s Fantastic Voyage).

These folks especially love knowing that they’re eating the right stuff, organic of course, and they stand ready to make up for any possible shortcomings in the food they eat, because of deficiencies in the soil, toxins from water runoff from neighboring non-organic farms that spray chemicals, etc.

So being health (mental and body) aficionados, they spend any free time learning about which nutrients do most to maintain health, energy and looks, even as the years go by. They are the envy of most people 20 years their junior in energy and appearance.

The kinds of network sellers in our new group have conversations like these about the product they love madly – they’ve bought the story and love it because it’s who they are:

“I really like being on regular dosage. It is perfect for my body. I’ll take an extra one if I fly on a plane to keep a high dose of antioxidants floating around in my body while I am breathing airplane air. I love the friendly bacteria and all the goodies like lutein and indole-3-carbinol…I market them because I love them.”

“Oh yes, me too. Greens are my favorite because I’m getting so many veggies I wouldn’t normally prepare, but know are good for me. And I couldn’t live without the acidophilus, bifidus and inulin which have eliminated [blah blah blah] which has plagued me all my life…but no more!”

“Yes., and even if I do find myself slowing down I’ve found that it’s a real message from my body to take a break. They make me aware of how my body feels and what it needs.”

These are the things that matter to the members of the new group, so that’s what they talk about. For them, the commitment to their own health is just like talking about the stuff geeks talk about all hours of the day and night – like lutein and indole-3-carbinol.

Who’d know or care about such stuff and get in a good mood talking about it, except devotees of the thing?

That’s the new group so far, and the members that I’d want if I were starting a network marketing company for people with this worldview. What about you?

(“New group” refers back to the original question at the beginning of this and the previous post.)

Who gets the Pyramid Quack award?

On our conference call the other day, people wondered how to talk and act so that people would stop asking “Is this a pyramid/one of those things?”

One way is to stop, forever, saying and doing the things that evoke this image in the minds of others – i.e. people “who abuse their friends and try to sell them stuff, and get them to sell and take a percent.”

For years, it’s been all about getting people to sell and recruit. That’s the reason countless people discouraged (and ridiculed) my customer-oriented students, “There’s no money in customers. All the money’s in the recruiting.”

I’ve taught hundreds of classes to those who prefer to amass customers. It’s lucrative in some companies, and many stayed in the business because they learned how to do that, instead of quitting.

But some companies pay you to act like you’re a pyramid type. We will bestow upon them the “Pyramid Quack” award. Yes, here. To encourage them to change their pyramid quacking ways which make their people look bad.

If it quacks like a pyramid…

“a pyramid scheme is…[where] the need to subscribe newcomers outweighs whatever benefits the products or system has to offer. Many MLMs sell distributorships more than cosmetics [name your product or service - KK].” -Coercion: Why We Listen to What “they” Say

Some people don’t know it from the way the business is promoted, but we do two things to make money in the network marketing business:

1) get customers (earn a percent on their orders)
2) Get sales reps who want to get customers and more sales reps (earn a percent on their orders)

So based on what they pay people to do, which companies get the Pyramid Quack award?

One gal, Phyllis, a Tahitian Noni rep for years, told the group this:

Typical order: $120 for the Noni juice per month.
Pay for getting a customer (who doesn’t sell it) to buy it: 6%. That’s like $5 for getting a $120 order.(!!)

With such puny pay, who’d want to go after customers? They don’t, and haven’t, for years, she said. This pay plan tells it all: We pay you to get recruits – people who sell it. We don’t care about customers who just buy it (and who don’t sell it).

So, we were about to bestow upon the Tahitian Noni International pay plan, the Pyramid Quack award.

Then with great pride, she announced to the group: “But Kim, this past year they’ve worked to change it – because I think they heard you. As of May 1, 2006, they are paying 20% for customer orders. So now we get $24 for each of those orders!”

That’s what, 3 days ago? After almost 10 years of being in business.

(This conference call will be up on the Talking about Your Great Thing podcast site later this week, so you can hear the juicy details for yourself.)

Tomorrow’s blog: The story on the pay plans of two more companies: Young Living and Life Wave. Do they get the Pyramid Quack award or not?

Send in your company plan plan info and see if it gets the Pyramid Quack award. (Use Comments below.) Here’s what info to submit:

1. What’s the typical customer order amount? And what do you get (range) if you find them, front line them, and they do NOT sign on to sell anything?

2. Name of company. And YOUR NAME.

Then we’ll check it out, and award the Pyramid Quack award to your company, or not.

After all, if it quacks like a pyramid…

Just imagine what you could do with one extra hour a day, you could spend it playing with your son or doing research on your next project

What I’ve compiled are my all time favorite websites that I’m sure will save you lots of time, which you can spend doing more important things.

Here we go in no apparent order.

1. Http://www.linkcounter.com

LinkCounter is a free service that tracks clicks on any link you want to track, from inside, outside, or within your site itself. It’s a great way to track affiliate programs and link exchanges, or to create referring links for sites you trade traffic with. They provide you with an unbiased report that you can use to keep track of your outgoing and incoming hits.

2. http://www.score.org

S.C.O.R.E stands for the Service Corps of Retired Executives, and they pride themselves on being the Counselors to Americas Small Business. In effect, S.C.O.R.E. is a non-profit group that offers FREE counseling to anyone who has, or is thinking about starting, a small business. I’ve utilized their trained counselors on numerous occasions, and have been grateful every time.

3. http://www.trafficology.com

This is easily my new favorite newsletter. Trafficology’s creator, Wayne Yeager, gives away literally THOUSANDS of dollars each month for new and creative traffic generating ideas. He then turns around and gives these ideas to his subscribers for FREE. I’ve been receiving the newsletter for a few months now, and I have yet to be disappointed. While some of the ideas are WAY too crazy for me to EVER try, the newsletter is *always* entertaining, and often useful.

4. http://www.coachmaria.com/articles/articlebanks.html

While I can’t speak for Maria’s consulting abilities (I’ve just never met her or heard anything about her), I can say that this is one of the best compilations I’ve seen of places to submit NEW articles. Some business owners have achieved maximum exposure by utilizing these free article submission sites. Hey it’s worth a shot right?

5. http://www.PayPerClickAnalyst.com

Pay per clicks are a great way to bring targeted traffic to your site, because you only pay when someone actually visits your site. It’s a great idea, but now it’s been copied so many times that it’s impossible to keep up with which ones are worth getting listed in, and which ones you should avoid.

That’s what makes Pay Per Click Analyst such a useful site. They keep tabs on all the new PPCs and tell you which ones are the best. If you’re serious about marketing your online business, then this is one website that you need to have bookmarked.

6. http://www.freemarketingvideos.com

Every week this site puts up a new video that covers some aspect of web marketing. So far they’ve covered how to make and ebook, how to setup autoresponders, and how to make digital product covers for your products. And when you consider it’s all free, it’s definitely worth a bookmark in my book.

7. http://www.EzineAdAuction.com

Ezine advertising is one of the cheapest and quickest ways to get the word out about a product or service. This site allows you to bid for ultra-cheap ad rates in a wide assortment of newsletters. If you’re serious about marketing online, then this site is one that you need to have bookmarked.

8. http://www.freshdevices.com
Here’s another site with some nifty utilities for you PC users out there. (Sorry Mac users.) They offer free utilities that help you optimize and diagnose your own system. If your computer seems to be getting slower over time, their products may be worth trying.

9. Top Marketing Forums

Warrior Forum: –> http://www.WarriorForum.com/forum Entrepreneurial Success Forum: –> http://www.ablake.net/forum

Between the Warrior Forum and Tony Blake’s Entrepreneurial Success Forum, you should be able to get just about any question regarding internet marketing answered. These forums are “must have” resources and should be in any online marketers “Favorites” list (or Bookmarks for you ‘Netscapers’ out there).

Still digitizing, huh? Why? If you’re still digitizing I’m guessing you either enjoy it or feel as if you have no other choice available to you. I realize there are certain individuals who get satisfaction from creating or reproducing an image by hand…

Still digitizing, huh? Why? If you’re still digitizing I’m guessing you either enjoy it or feel as if you have no other choice available to you. I realize there are certain individuals who get satisfaction from creating or reproducing an image by hand. The very process of plotting or punching points (also known as nodes) can be very time consuming and become a tedious job. Once you’ve completed a complex or intricate piece of artwork, it’s only natural to feel a sense of pride for a job well done!

I can remember as far back as 1982, when personal computers were just beginning to be introduced into the Awards & Engraving industry. Digitizing was painful! This was long before the development of computer aided design (CAD) software. All drawings had to be created from beginning to end with no mistakes or you had to start all over from the very beginning. You sure didn’t want the phone to ring or have a customer come through your door while in the middle of any drawing!!

A few years later we were blessed with CAD programs that enabled you to digitize logos and images much faster. Using software commands to create vectors, curves, ovals, arcs and numerous other short cut keys, allowing you to improve your work and in many cases enhancing the original artwork. Certainly one of the coolest things was being able to stop, save your work and pick up where you left off at another time. Whether it was later that day, the next day or sometime the following week. It was nice to not feel “married” to the system and be able to take a break if needed.

As computers became more and more popular, hardware and software progressed quite rapidly. It wasn’t long before people were talking about scanning and converting their raster files into vector formats. Many individuals retired their digitizing pads and began the “on screen” clean up process, believing this was their salvation from the point to point digitizing, we all thought was so nice in the beginning! Well, I must say for me it lacked the luster some were boasting of over the phone. Most all tradeshow demonstrations were what I would refer to as, “smoke and mirrors”!

Honestly I thought it was more challenging to scan and clean up my artwork as opposed to simply digitizing it from scratch. To me it was much easier and faster to continue to use CAD software and turn out a drawing that was much cleaner, with fewer points and maintained a much smaller file size. Most digitizers were (and are) concerned about the overall byte size of the finished logo. This was greatly due to the limitations of numerous proprietary systems. Forcing the digitizer to be mindful of their final output and keeping points to a minimum.

Through the years of now more than two decades, computers and software as we once knew it, has come a long, long way. We’ve all seen dozens of “state of the art” programs and hardware improvements to fill a small garage! Yet many of us still find ourselves looking for that “perfect” solution that would allow us to stop fretting over artwork.

Well, my friend … I have a solution for you. Let me give you an analogy or rather a comparison of digitizing (or scanning, it’s really all very much the same involved process), versus mowing your yard. Yep, you read it correctly … Digitizing vs. Mowing!

Think about it … just because you can mow your yard, does that mean you should? (Again, I realize some people get satisfaction and pleasure from mowing, my wife loves to mow our yard). Much like I stated at the beginning of this article. You may do it for pleasure or feel as if you’re stuck with it! You may choose to push mow with your standard hand mower or step up to a riding mower and sit comfortably within the leather seat. Either way, you’re still “married” to the task at hand.

Digitizing = Hand Mower (push from point to point)
Scanning = Riding Mower (scan across the land)

You’ve heard it and read it many times, “your time is money”. Most of us at some time or another have chosen to hire someone to do our yard work. Whether it be mowing or simply raking leaves, we’ve shuffled the chore to another individual or company. So I pose the question to you, “Why don’t you hire someone else to do your digitizing?” Choose a respectable service and send your artwork to the professionals for digitization.

With technology as advanced as it is today, you can email (or fax) your logo to the pros and have it back within 24 hours (two business days for some). This creates a win-win situation for all parties involved in the process. You win by saving time and money (remember, your time is money), not to mention the mental challenges that may arise should you continue to do everything “in house”. Your customer wins as well! They receive a top quality reproduction of their artwork in a digital format. This could and should open up more avenues for you to “lock in” their business for life. Giving you the slight edge over your competitors and versatility to create more quality products and services for your clients.

There are several ways you can go about doing this, depending on how much time you have to devote to the matter. While SEO articles might be challenging for some writers, they typically don’t take a long time to write and can really help bring traffic to websites who need the extra help.

If you are looking for easy home e-business ideas, and are a good writer, you might want to consider selling your SEO articles to various websites. There are several ways you can go about doing this, depending on how much time you have to devote to the matter. While SEO articles might be challenging for some writers, they typically don’t take a long time to write and can really help bring traffic to websites who need the extra help. Take a look at these methods of getting your articles on the web to help you get started.

A Smarter E-Business Directory

One way you can get your SEO articles on the web is through an e-business directory of articles. You can create your own article directory and allow people to purchase your articles straight off of your site. You will need to be sure you don’t list your entire articles on your site, only blurbs of the content, because some people will just cut and paste your content, without asking or paying for it. You would be surprised at how many web operators would be interested. This is an easy way to set up your own e-business “article shop”.

In addition, if you would prefer not to deal with the directory yourself, you can always find a directory that already exists and submit your articles to it. Many article directories will allow you to submit articles and in turn, if they are bought, you will get paid. Of course, some are free and others charge a fee when an item is purchased. Just be sure you completely understand the aspects of the deal before committing.

Start E-Business

If you would rather take a different approach to the whole thing, you might want to consider trying to start your own e-business. You can create a simple website and start selling your product right away. Your product being your articles that is. Having your own website with your article synopsis on it will benefit you in several ways.

First, it will of course give your potential customers ideas of what you can offer them. They will be able to go through your articles and pick and choose those they like for their website. When you offer a summary, they will know what to expect and they will be more satisfied overall. In addition, having these summaries on your site will give your site increased attention because you will be targeted by the search engines for your extensive lists and summaries of keywords. When someone looks for a keyword you have an article on, your site might pop up for their consideration.

Benefits Of SEO Article Home E-Business

Obviously, you can really make a significant salary selling your SEO articles online. You can not only make a good salary however, but you can also benefit in other ways. For one, being your own boss is a great thing and you will be able to have the flexibility you have always dreamed about. You will be able to watch your children grow up, never missing a single school program or sports game. You will be able to spend more time with your spouse and take family vacations. Lastly, you will be able to allow time to focus on yourself. Once you get your e-business of selling SEO articles up and running you will find that your business will basically run itself, which is always nice for a business owner.

So, if you are a writer and are looking for a way to start your own home e-business, you really should consider selling your own SEO articles.
